The University of Papua New Guinea and Australian National University are proud to present the 2025 PNG Update “Papua New Guinea at 50: past, present and future” at UPNG Waigani Campus, Port Moresby, from 21 - 22 August, 2025.
Organised by the University of Papua New Guinea’s School of Business and Public Policy and the Australian National University’s Development Policy Centre, the annual PNG Update is the premier forum for the discussion of research and analysis relating to contemporary economic and public policy issues in PNG.
This year’s theme is ‘Papua New Guinea at 50: past, present and future’. We invite abstracts and panels that broadly address the theme, with potential topics including (but not limited to):
• PNG economy
• Government and accountability
• Politics and elections
• International relations, regional cooperation and security
• Trade and investment
• Social development: health, education and gender
• The constitution and rule of law
• Environmental sustainability and climate change
• Infrastructure development
Submission deadline is Friday 30 May.
Travel support is available for a limited number of Papua New Guinean or Pacifific Islands postgraduate students and early career researchers (who have commenced work in the academic sector within the last 5 years). Support is also available for a number of female Papua New Guinean researchers based in PNG.
