This course is an eye opener to the whole area of banking as a profession, and as a discipline. It covers the features that distinguish it from the other financial intermediaries, the range of services they offer, and the types of banks.

The course will discuss the operation of those institutions that are in charge of creating and controlling money supply, the role of commercial banks as credit creating institutions in the financial sector and the rest of the economy, and of the central bank as the credit regulating institution.

There is some discussion on international monetary matters with a review of the history of banking roles, how they have changed and the most recent innovations.
