Divisions

  • Programs & Production

The Programs and Production Division is made of three sub sections (Course Development, Multimedia and Production/Dispatch units). The section is responsible for the design, development, production and dispatch of the course materials of programs offered at the Open College.

The Course Development Unit is made up of Instructional Designers and Text Processors who convert and format texts into the ones that you see and read. Open College has also adopted internationally proven models for distance learning course design, which Instructional Designers use to design and develop courses with academics in various faculties and disciplines in the schools.

The Multimedia and Production/Dispatch unit provide support in the area of multimedia and production and dispatch of the course materials to students. The Programs and Production provides the thrust of the development and production of academic programs for delivery in the ODL mode.

  • Professional & Continuing Education

This section is responsible for development of professional and continuing education activities. It manages the Certificate in Tertiary and Community Studies (CTCS) program. CTCS is a stand-alone sub-degree program pitched at year 10 school leavers that prepares students for either tertiary studies or provides skills useful for living in the community. PCE manages the annual Lahara program on behalf of the university and is also responsible for providing short courses and targeted training for the niche market.

  • Centre & Student Support

The Center for Student Support Services is responsible for all aspects of student support. From student administration to facilitating academic support in consultation with UPNG schools, CSS also manages the establishment and operation of study centers. Study Centers are resource centers where most interaction between the student and the university takes place. CSS basically provides the link between the student and the university; an enabling conduit for teaching and learning. By extension, CSS is the arm of OC, which promotes the greater charter for access to Higher Education for all.

The Roles & Responsibilities of the CSS functional unit include but are not limited to:

    • All aspects of Student (Learner) Support including provision of adequate teaching facilities, learning materials, academic counseling and assessment
    • All aspects of Student (Learner) Engagement including provision of the enabling environment for greater teacher-learner interaction, course advice and program support, academic counseling, assessment and student feedback
