Entry Requirements for MBBS, BOH/BDS and the Other Health Science Degree Programs, Diploma in Dental Technology (DDT) and Diploma in Anaesthetic Science (DAS)

For applicants completing SFY or its Equivalent.

To get into the school of Medicine & Health Sciences, you must first complete the UPNG Science Foundation Year or its equivalent with good passes and obtain a minimum GPA of 3.50 for MBBS, BOH/BDS, Pharmacy, BMLS & BMIS. We do consider students who also complete the SFY program through the University Open Campus and as well as those from the Pacific Adventist University, Non School Leavers and Overseas applicants

For those applicants who have completed a Bachelor’s Degree (Science Based).

Non-school Leavers who have successfully completed a Science Based Degree can also apply for the above pragrams after having worked for a minimum of two (2) years after graduating. They must have obtained a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the final year of their studies. Their applications must be supported with two strong recommendations. One from the workplace and the other from a community leader or pastor with good social standing in the community.

Bachelor of Nursing (Both General and Clinical)

To be accepted into the Bachelor of Clinical Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing, students must:

  • Provide evidence of matriculation or equivalent,
  • Have 3 years’ experience, working as a Registered Nurse, including at least one year working in their area of specialist interest (area relevant to the program for which they are applying)
  • Be currently practicing and hold current registration with the Nursing Council for PNG
  • Provide documentation that they have been recommended by their immediate supervisor for further training in the area for which they are applying and that this recommendation has been endorsed by their employer.

Currently, the four BCN and two BN degree programs run through two semesters and an additional eight weeks of Professional practicum (“work experience”) and represent a total of 30 credit points.

The internal allocation of these credit points reflects the emphasis given to the different Domains of learning for each of the programs.

Diploma in Dental Technology

Students must successfully complete Grade 12 and score a mixture of ‘'B” and ‘C’ Grades, or a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50. You must also be good with your hands and be able to get on with different types of people.
It is a three-year, full-time course for students.

Diploma in Anaesthetic Science

Applicants must have successfully complete Grade 12 and score a mixture of ‘B” and ‘C’ Grades, or a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50 and attended a Nursing College or its equivalent and must have worked as an Anaesthetic Technical Officer (ATO) or as an Operating Theatre Nurse for more than Five Years, in a recognized Hospital and must be recommended for training by your employer. You must also be good-with your hands and be able to get on with different types of people. It is a one-
year, full-time course for students
