This notice is to inform all eligible graduands of the 71st Graduation Ceremony of the University of Papua New Guinea regarding graduation procedures, atire requirements, and important dates. All graduands are required to strictly comply with the provisions of the University General By-Laws governing
graduation ceremonies.

1. List of eligible candidates:
The list of eligible graduands, approved by the Senate of UPNG, arranged by School and Student ID Number, may be confirmed with the Executive Oficer of your respective School. The list will also be available on the University website and the UPNG Facebook page on or after Monday, 30 March 2026.

2. Purchase and collection of Graduation Atire:
Graduation atire will be available for purchase at the University Bookshop during normal working hours on weekdays from Monday, 23 March to
Friday, 17 April 2026.

The graduation atire requirements are as follows:

 Programme   Atire (Number of pieces)
 Diploma   Standard Graduation Gown (Single piece) 
 Bachelors’   Standard Graduation Gown and Hood (Two pieces)
 Honors’   Standard Graduation Gown and Deep Hood sewn with specific ribbon measurement (Two pieces)
 Masters’  Special Graduation Gown sewn with specific ribbon measurement, same with Deep Hood and Mortar Board (Three pieces)
 Doctorate  Please check with the Executive Oficer of respective School. 

All gowns must comply strictly with the University Approved By-Laws, and must be in the original Adonis Blue color made of approved quality fabric. Hoods will include ribbons sewn on the edges with specific measurements to distinguish between Schools and programmes. Each School has its own distinctive ribbon color.

3. Graduation Ceremony Scheduled by School and Hood Ribbon Color:
The 71st Graduation Ceremony will be held over five (5) days, with each ceremony commencing at 9:00 a.m.

 Monday, 27 April, 2026   School of Natural and Physical Sciences (SNPS)   Maze Yellow ribbon Color for all.
 Tuesday, 28 April, 2026   School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS)   Blue ribbon color for all. 
 Wednesday, 29 April, 2026   School of Law (SoL)  White ribbon color for all.
 Thursday, 30 April, 2026  School of Business and Public Policy (SBPP)  Three different ribbon colors for three different programmes.
 Friday, 1 May, 2026  School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS)  Seven different ribbon colors for seven different programmes.

Note: Graduands of SBPP and SMHS are advised to check with your respective School for appropriate hood ribbon color.

4. Graduation Rehearsals:
Graduation rehearsals will be held at the UPNG Drill Hall on:

  • Wednesday, 22 April 2026, and,
  • Thursday, 23 April 2026

All rehearsals will commence at 9:00 a.m.
Graduands must check the University website for their respective School’s rehearsal schedule.

5. Arrival Time on Graduation Day:
All graduands must arrive at Sir John Guise Stadium on their respective graduation day before 8:00 a.m. to allow sufficient time for the respective
School to organize the graduands’ line-up and the graduation procession. Graduand who arrives late will be denied entry to the graduation venue.

6. Settlement of Outstanding Tuition, Boarding and Lodging and other Fees:
All eligible graduands must settle any outstanding boarding and lodging fees and other University fees by Friday, 20 March 2026 in order to be
considered for graduation.

7. Graduation fee, Mode of Payment and Payment related Instructions:
Payments must be made only through Internet Banking to the following accounts:

Note: The details of Graduation attire fee can be collected from the UPNG Bookshop.

Graduands must take note of the following instructions:

  1. All payments must be made only through Internet Banking / Domestic Fund Transfer. Any other forms of payment, such as, cash payments, mobile banking, or use of overpayment credits or other mode of payment will NOT be accepted.
  2. Ensure that your full name, student ID number, and programme are included when making payments.
  3. Late payments will not be accepted.
  4. Graduands must present their Internet Banking / Domestic Fund Transfer receipt to the Bursary Trust Fund Officer for verification before collecting their graduation attire from the Bookshop.
  5. All graduation attire must be collected on or before Friday, 17 April 2026.

8. General Information for Graduands:

  • Graduating students are responsible for arranging their own travel and accommodation for the graduation ceremony.
  • Anyone who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs or intoxicated will not be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony.
  • Graduands who are not wearing the approved graduation attire will not be allowed to participate.
  • Collection of graduation attire will be strictly from the University Bookshop only.
