The School of Business and Public Policy (SBPP) was established in 2002 and is one of the five academic schools at the University of Papua New Guinea. The other schools include the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Natural and Physical Sciences, the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the School of Law.

The University of Papua New Guinea and the School of Business and Public Policy (SBPP) are the major beneficiaries of the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance Precint (SILAG), which is an agreement signed between the Government of Papua New Guinea and the Government of Australia. Through the agreement, the School:

  • has secured a new state of art building with latest international standard technology and facilities;
  • is supported by Development Policy Centre (DPC) of Crawford School of Public Policy of Australian National University (ANU), to conduct the School’s undergraduate and Post-Graduate Economics and Public Policy Management programmes. Five lecturers of ANU are working with the School, on a full-time basis, to train local human resources. Further, in collaboration with ANU, the University and the School organize various research activities, annual “PNG Update” Conference, annual student’s study tour to ANU, and other initiatives;
  • has realigned its curriculum, and has ensured that all of its programmes relevant for the contemporary period;
  • is focusing on developing on high quality human resources to enhance the development of the nation.

At present, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Government of Australia is awarding 10 scholarships each to the candidates of the Graduate Diploma in Economic and Public Policy and Master of Economic and Public Policy programmes, under “Public Sector Leadership Scholarships”, through “Australian Awards”. The public servants of Government of Papua New Guinea are eligible for the scholarship. The awardees are selected jointly by Department of Personnel Management, the School and Australian Awards. The School has strong partnerships with international and local professional organisations and industry.

The School is inviting application for the following Postgraduate Programmes:

  • Executive Master of Business Administration (E-MBA);
  • Master of Business Administration – Certified Practicing Accountant (MBA-CPA);
  • Master of Human Resources Management (MHRM);
  • Graduate Diploma in Economic and Public Policy (GDEPP) leading to Master of Economic and Public Policy – supported by DPC of ANU
