Dealing with people and their social wellbeing is a very challenging field for a social worker. At UPNG the Social Work Strand produces graduates who live with the people in both rural and urban communities and help them through applications of appropriate intervention practices to enhance the quality of lives. We encourage students to major in this program because their knowledge and skills are needed to address critical social development issues

Psychology is the only one of its kind in Papua New Guinea. The emphasis of this program is in the area of Industrial/Organisational Psychology, Cross-cultural issues in Management, Consumer Behaviour, Testing and Assessment, Social Psychology, and Organisational Behaviour. Whilst the emphasis of this program is biased towards management and business in particular, the program also supports Clinical and Counselling related courses.
